You rule a punch die and just move him off a slot. I like the mechanic where you leave the dice for other people in the future, but that was the only system I liked. I looked at both games and have not tried Dice Through time so I can't comment but I did watch a playthough. We have a few co-op games and I feel like the playtime of this is perfect and will be enjoyed. I want to try this game co-op with friends, which I heard is easier with more people. You can never rest on your laurels in this game because you will be using every turn you can to get the goals accomplished. The last 3 or 4 turns is always a rush and stress that I just need more turns but sometimes it just works out. It feels amazing when you win, and of course I hum the theme song and pretend the DeLorean is reaching 88 mph and going back to the future. They also all get an awesome skill that I pretty much use every turn and you have too to win.Ĭlosing Thoughts - Every win and loss has been close for me. Each character starts with a trait that gives them 2 of a certain color dice making them better at those challenges. it's giving me decisions to make and setting up my turn. The decisions to move or use the tile as a dice is the core game loop that has me coming back. SO I suspect if you hate Stardew Valley, you will not like this game.Īnother thing I really like though is the use of the power tiles. It's very dice heavy and luck based, with some mitigation. I've also seen the same criticism of Stardew Valley, which I don't own but would like to get. So there are games I can play what I consider perfectly only to have a movement card ruin my plans, or a bad dice roll waste a turn. I think if each player started with one biff re-roll die the game might have been perfect. But getting the tiles that can mitigate when gaining powers is also luck. You can mitigate the luck a bit, but it's easier to mitigate the luck once you get new powers. There is a lot of luck with the dice roles. Gameplay - This is the area that I often see the game get bashed, and I can understand people's reasoning. You need to get Marty's parents to fall back in love, avoid biff, get the parts for the DeLorean, and get it to the spot all while trying to get stronger and avoid trouble. The game gives you that feeling that you never have enough time, which captures the movie perfectly. Everything works with the Art in my opinion and really enjoying the theme. The trouble cards follow movie events as well. There are items from the movie that are great. It has opportunity cards which change each game and give you all the movie beats. Theme - I love the theme and it does a great job. However all my other characters lean really bad and I'm afraid they might snap off their bases if I try to correct them. Biff and Einstein are the only models that have enough plastic to not bend. They are all leaning and bended the wrong way. So I'm pretty happy EXCEPT for the miniatures. The DeLorean is the best piece in the box. While people think the love meter can be fiddly, I enjoy turning the pieces over to have that thematic feel of the movies as the siblings are erased during the movie. I've also only played this game solo with 2 characters, which is considered the hardest way to play.Ĭomponents - I really love the character mats and the tiles/cards. Please note that I'm a huge Back to the Future fan and consider it one of the best movies ever made. I saw that most people were giving this game bad reviews for it's difficulty and it's gameplay so I wanted to give my thoughts. So I recently picked up this game for cheap.
